Dovestar passed out of the camp unnoticed with ease. Who would question the leader after all? She padded out, taking strained steps. Once upon a time her gait had been graceful and easy. But age had finally caught up with the honorable leader. That was why tonight she had chosen to leave the camp for a moment. To simply ponder her life up to this point. Because she knew life for her wouldn't last much longer. Few knew the actual age of Dovestar. And only she knew how many lives she still possessed.
After a while Dovestar arrived at her destination. A long river flowed gently through the plains of her territory. From where she stood it was possible to see it's length reach the lake. It was a high place and in the light of the stars and moon it was also beautiful. With a tired sigh Dovestar lay beside the river, feeling the soft touch of the river droplets on her fur. Here she felt content at last. But this feeling wasn't meant to stay.
A cold breeze blew through the air reaching Dovestar's resting spot. It was in some ways a warning. But it was too late for the old she-cat now. A huge brown and white figure lumbered down the hillside. The beast had scented it's prey before and now it was on the hunt. As soon as it spotted Dovestar's white pelt, it broke into a run. The she-cat never knew what hit her.
Teeth fought for a spot on her neck and claws dug into her rear. With a screech, Dovestar reared up, but was instantly pushed back by the huge amount of weight. The old cat had no chance of escape. Or to even win this fight. Long ago perhaps it was possible but tonight it was impossible. Dovestar screeched again determined not to go down without a fight. She clawed at her unknown opponent making contact with the creature's face. It let out a hiss of hatred and doubled it's effort. The fight was finished.
At last the monster had a hold on Dovestar's soft neck. With a quick bite, it's teeth sunk into her flesh. With a gasp Dovestar pulled back. Thoughts flew through her mind. But one was most prominent. The thought that this was her last life. She turned determined to see her attacker's face before she left to join StarClan and the rest of her family. Her final look of shook disappeared as she past on into the heavens.
"Silly, silly kitty. Malice wouldn't ever be beat by you. Time to bring you back home. Little kits coming soon," Dovestar's killer mumbled to himself as he began to drag the bloody body of the leader away.
OOC: A WindClan cat can find them...Swiftbreeze is now leader.
